Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers to get you started on your Scouting journey.

What does it cost to join?

Annual registration is $210 per Scout. Additional costs may include covering camping and other group activities.

Financial assistance is available through Northern Star Scouting to ensure every youth has the opportunity to participate, regardless of their family’s ability to pay. Assistance can cover up to 100% of the cost.

Is Scouting safe for my child?

Yes. Safety is the top priority in Scouting. The program is designed to provide a safe, structured, and supportive environment for youth and their families.

Every adult volunteer and staff member completes a background check and Safeguarding Youth training. Many of our volunteers are parents themselves, and they receive guidance and resources to run safe, age-appropriate activities and respond appropriately when situations arise.

Is Scouting religious?

Scouting encourages youth to be respectful of others’ beliefs and values but doesn’t promote one specific religion or denomination.

Families of all faiths and beliefs are welcome in Scouting.

Do Cub Scouts wear uniforms?

Scouts are encouraged to wear uniforms, but they are not required to participate in the program. All Scouts with Northern Star Scouting, new and returning, receive a free “Go Scouting” t-shirt with their registration.
